(1) MAYTAG RECALLS DISHWASHERS DUE TO FIRE HAZARD

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. Name of product: Maytag® and Jenn-Air® brand dishwashers

Units: About 2.3 million

Manufacturer: Maytag Corp., of Newton, Iowa

Hazard: Liquid rinse-aid can leak from its dispenser and come into contact with the dishwasher’s internal wiring which can short-circuit and ignite, posing a fire hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: Maytag has received 135 reports of dishwasher fires, resulting in product and/or property damage. Four injuries have been reported, including three reports of smoke inhalation and one serious hand laceration when operating a fire extinguisher to put out a fire in the dishwasher.

Description: The recall involves Maytag® and Jenn-Air® under counter or portable plastic tub dishwashers. The dishwashers have black, white, almond, bisque and stainless steel front panels. The following model and serial numbers are printed on a label located on the dishwasher’s plastic frame on top of or to the left of the door opening. Consumers should contact Maytag to determine if their dishwasher is included in this recall.

Sold at: Department and appliance stores and by homebuilders nationwide from July 1997 through June 2001 for between $370 and $800.

Manufactured in: United States

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using these dishwashers, disconnect the electric supply by shutting off the fuse or circuit breaker controlling it and inform all users of the dishwasher about the risk of fire. Contact Maytag for either a free in-home repair, or a $75 cash back reimbursement following the purchase of a new Maytag®, Jenn-Air®, Whirlpool® or KitchenAid® dishwasher. Consumers should not return the dishwasher to the retailer where it was purchased, as retailers are not prepared to take units back.

(2) HONG TENG TRADING (USA) INC. RECALLS ELECTRIC OIL LAMPS DUE TO SHOCK AND FIRE HAZARDS

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. Name of product: Electric Oil Lamps

Units: About 3,900

Importer: Hong Teng Trading (USA) Inc., of Orlando, Fla.

Hazard: The power cord is not polarized and is undersized. The power cord is not correctly secured and there is no strain relief on the switch housing. Additionally, the switch housing is not flame-retardant. As a result of these issues, the lamps pose shock and fire hazards.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: This recall involves all electric oil lamps sold by Hong Teng Trading. The packaging states, “LJY” and “Made in China”. The white switch on the cord has writing on the back that reads, “TIAO GUANG” and HENG CHANG.” They were sold in four styles and various colors.

Sold through: Dollar stores nationwide from October 2006 through December 2006 for about $1.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the oil burners and contact Hong Teng Trading for details on how to receive a refund.

Summary: ON CERTAIN NINJA MOTORCYCLES, THE FUEL TANK MAY HAVE BEEN PUNCTURED OR WEAKENED BY A FAIRING MOUNTING SCREW OR MANUFACTURING OPERATION.

Consequence: FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FUEL TANK AND REPLACE THE TANK IF NECESSARY. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT JANUARY 12, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT KAWASAKI AT 1-866-802-9381.

(4) OLD WILLIAMSBURGH CANDLE CORP. RECALLS MASON JAR CANDLES DUE TO LACERATION AND BURN HAZARD

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of product: Old Williamsburgh Mason Jar Candles, sizes 3.5 to 5.0 oz.

Units: About 3.7 million

Manufacturer: Old Williamsburgh Candle Corp., of Brooklyn, N.Y.

Hazard: The wick can move from the center of the jar to the side causing the glass to overheat and possibly crack or shatter. Exposure to broken glass and molten wax poses laceration and burn hazards to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Old Williamsburgh Candle Corp. has received 11 reports of the candles cracking or shattering, including one laceration injury.

Description: This recall involves all scents and colors of Mason Jar Candles in 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, and 5.0 oz. sizes. The size of the candle is specified on the label at the bottom of the jar, on the last line of the label. Replacement Mason Jar Candles, which are not included in the recall, have a “Q” on either side of the label.

Sold through: Dollar stores, discount stores, and grocery stores nationwide from May 2006 through December 2006 for between $1 and $1.50.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the candles and return them to the place of purchase for an exchange or full refund.

(5) SALLY FOSTER INC. RECALLS TEA LIGHTS CANDLES FOR FIRE HAZARD

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. Name of product: Tea Lights Sold with Votive Candle Holders

Units: About 46,800 sets

Retailer: Sally Foster, Inc., of Troy, Mich.

Importer: Innovage Distribution, Inc., of Los Angeles, Calif.

Hazard: The tea light candles have a clear, plastic shell that can melt or ignite, posing a fire or burn hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Sally Foster has received two reports of the plastic shells of these tea light candles igniting, causing minor property damage. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recalled tea lights were sold as part of the three-piece Glass Candle Holders with Tea Lights Set, item number S106 in the Sally Foster catalog and Web site. The product’s packaging was marked “Votive Holders with Tealights-Set of 3” and “Item Number 2006 157.” Only the white tea light candles with clear plastic shells are affected. Products delivered after December 8, 2006 included tea lights with metal shells and are not included in this recall. The glass candle holders sold with these tea lights are not subject to the recall and consumers may continue to use them.

Sold through: Sally Foster’s Web site from July 2006 through December 2006 and in Sally Foster catalogs from August 2006 through December 2006 for about $15.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the tea light candles and contact Sally Foster for a set of six free replacement tea light candles with metal shells. Consumers who purchased the item online will be directly notified by Sally Foster and will receive the free set of six replacement tea light candles.

(6) TOWER FANS RECALLED BY THE HOLMES GROUP DUE TO FIRE HAZARD

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. Name of product: Holmes® Oscillating Tower Fans

Units: About 300,000

Distributor: The Holmes Group, of Milford, Mass.

Hazard: Electrical arcing in the fan’s wiring can cause a fire hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: The Holmes Group has received 16 reports of property damage, including one reported injury involving minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Description: The recall involves the Holmes HT30 Oscillating Tower Fan. The model number can be found on the silver label on the back of the unit. The tower fans are white. “Holmes®” is printed on the front of the base.

Sold at: Target, Bed Bath & Beyond and additional department and specialty stores nationwide from July 2002 through June 2005 for about $30.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the fans and contact The Holmes Group for instructions on receiving a free replacement unit.

(7) SPORTSSTUFF INC. RECALLS AIR PUMPS FOR LACERATION HAZARD

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. Name of product: Inflator Air Pumps

Units: About 11,000

Importer: Sportsstuff Inc., of Omaha, Neb.

Hazard: These air pumps can overheat and explode during use, posing a risk of lacerations to the user and nearby consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Sportsstuff has received 52 reports of pumps exploding, 13 of which resulted in lacerations. Six of these incidents involved facial lacerations and one consumer reported an eye injury.

Description: The recalled products are 2.5 PSI pumps with model numbers 57-1504-A and 57-1504 that are used to inflate low pressure inflatable items such as rafts and toys. The Model No. 57-1504-A pump was sold separately with an assortment of interlocking nozzles to adapt to a number of needs. The Model 57-1504 pump was sold with the Sportsstuff Launch Pod, an inflatable water trampoline sold under Sportsstuff number 58-1002. The model number and the date code "0104" are located on the Underwriters’ Laboratories label on the top of each pump. "2.5 PSI" was not written on the air pump, but was written on the packaging.

Sold through: Marine distributors, mail order catalogs, and sporting good and various other stores nationwide from January 2004 through January 2005 for about $50. The Launch Pod water trampolines that included recalled pumps were sold at Sam’s Club from January 2004 through August 2004 for about $375.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the pumps and contact Sportsstuff for a free replacement.
