NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION (NHTSA) ANNOUNCES RECALL OF 1997 INFINITY 130, Q45 AND MAXIMA
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announces recall of the 1997 Nissan Infinity 130, Q45 and Maxima due to a diode that may be damaged during manufacture. One of the Diodes used in the alternator may have been damaged when build. This can eventually result in failure eof the diode and electrical short which could melt the plastic housing.
If the combustible gas emitted by the melting plastic does not disperse due to air flow through the engine compartment, it could ignite and in turn ignite the fan guide in the alternator.
Consumers can contact Nissan at (800) 662-6200. The National Highway Safety Administration Campaign No. is 02V171000. The Announcement can be viewed at http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/.
