(1) NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION (NHTSA) ANNOUNCES RECALL OF 1997 INFINITY 130, Q45 AND MAXIMA

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announces recall of the 1997 Nissan Infinity 130, Q45 and Maxima due to a diode that may be damaged during manufacture. One of the Diodes used in the alternator may have been damaged when build. This can eventually result in failure eof the diode and electrical short which could melt the plastic housing.

If the combustible gas emitted by the melting plastic does not disperse due to air flow through the engine compartment, it could ignite and in turn ignite the fan guide in the alternator.

Consumers can contact Nissan at (800) 662-6200. The National Highway Safety Administration Campaign No. is 02V171000. The Announcement can be viewed at http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/.

(2) CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY COMMISSION (CPSC) AND DOLLAR TREE STORES, INC. ANNOUNCE RECALL OF DRIP PANS

Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Dollar Tree Stores, Inc., of Chesapeake, Varginia, is voluntarily recalling about 294,000 drip pans. These drip pans are used under the burners of kitchen ranges to catch food that drips while cooking. The hot burners can ignite the drip pans and pose a fire hazard.

The recalled drip pans were sold in various sizes, ranging from 6- to 9- inches in diameter. The SKU Number 845289 is either on the pan or on a cardboard insert in the package. All of the drip pans are black.

For more information, consumers can contact Dollar Tree Stores, Inc., at (800) 876-8077 between 9:00 am and 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time Monday through Friday.

The CPSC point of contact is Yolanda Fultz-Morris, release number 02-197, (301) 504-0580 Ext. 1219. The notice issued by the CPSC can be viewed at http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml02/02197.html.

(3) CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY COMMISSION (CPSC) AND YOUNG’S J.K., INC. ANNOUNCE RECALL OF NOVELTY CIGARETTE LIGHTERS

Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Young's J.K. Inc., of Portland, Oregon, is recalling about 1,800 novelty cigarette lighters. These lighters do not have child-resistant mechanisms, as required by federal law.

Young children could ignite the lighters, posing fire and burn hazards.

For more information, consumers can contact Young's J.K. Inc. collect at (503) 252-3022 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time Monday through Friday

The CPSC point of contact is Mark Ross, release number 02-202, (301) 504-0580 Ext. 1189. The notice issued by the CPSC can be viewed at http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml02/02209.html
