ITT WATER TECHNOLOGY INC. RECALLS FAULTY PUMPS FOR FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. Name of Product: Goulds Pumps®, Bell & Gossett® and Red Jacket Water Products Brand Pumps for Fire Suppression Systems Units: About 18,300 Manufacturer: Water Technology Inc., of Auburn, N.Y. Hazard: A mechanical part on these pumps was not fully tightened, which can lead to the pump failing during use. If pumps sold with fire suppression systems fail, the risk of fire damage increases. The pump itself does not pose a fire hazard. Incidents/Injuries: ITT Water Technology Inc. has received one report of a pump failing to start during a system test. No injuries have been reported. Description: The recalled pumps are general in purpose, but are sometimes used in fire suppression systems. The pumps were sold under the Goulds Pumps, Bell & Gossett and Red Jacket Water Products brands. The pumps can be identified by having Model NPE, NPO, MCC, MCS, SM or Series 3530 on their nameplate. Recalled pumps were manufactured between December 2005 and July 26, 2006. They have date code M05, A06, B06, C06, D06, E06, F06 or G06. The date code is the first three digits of the serial number on the pump nameplate. Sold at: Pump distributors nationwide from December 2005 through July 2006 for about $800. Manufactured In: United States Remedy: Installers of fire suppression systems will be contacted by ITT Water Technology Inc. to schedule an inspection and replacement. APPLE ANNOUNCES RECALL OF BATTERIES USED IN PREVIOUS IBOOK AND POWERBOOK COMPUTERS DUE TO FIRE HAZARD
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announces the following recall in voluntary cooperation with the firm below. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. Name of Product: Rechargeable, lithium-ion batteries with cells manufactured by Sony for certain previous iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 notebook computers only. Units: About 1.1 million battery packs (an additional 700,000 battery packs were sold outside the U.S.) Battery Cell Manufacturer: Sony Energy Devices Corp., of Japan Computer Manufacturer: Apple Computer Inc., of Cupertino, Calif. Hazard: These lithium-ion batteries can overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers. Incidents/Injuries: Apple has received nine reports of batteries overheating, including two reports of minor burns from handling overheated computers and other reports of minor property damage. No serious injuries were reported. Description: The recalled lithium-ion batteries were used with the following computers: 12-inch iBook G4, 12-inch PowerBook G4 and 15-inch PowerBook G4. Consumers should remove the battery from the computer to view the model and serial numbers labeled on the bottom of the unit.

No other Apple notebook computers are involved in this recall.
Sold Through: Apple’s online store, Apple retail stores nationwide, and Apple Authorized Resellers from October 2003 through August 2006 for between $900 and $2300. The batteries also were sold separately for about $130. Assembled in: Japan, Taiwan and China Remedy: Consumers should stop using the recalled batteries immediately and contact Apple to arrange for a replacement battery, free of charge. After removing the recalled battery from their iBook or PowerBook, consumers should plug in the AC adapter to power the computer until a replacement battery arrives. Consumer Contact: Contact Apple at (800) 275-2273 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. CT Monday through Sunday or log on to Apple’s Web site at http://support.apple.com/batteryprogram to check the battery’s serial number and request a replacement battery.

AGIO INTERNATIONAL’S OUTDOOR STEEL DOME FIREPLACES SOLD AT LOWE’S STORES RECALLED DUE TO FIRE HAZARD
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announces the following recall in voluntary cooperation with the firm below. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. Name of Product: “Garden Treasures” Steel Dome Fireplaces Units: About 33,800 Importer: L G Sourcing, Inc., of North Wilkesboro, N.C. Manufacturer: Agio International Co. LTD, of China Hazard: Touch-up paint used on the fireplace’s exterior can ignite during use, posing a fire hazard. Incidents/Injuries: There have been two reports of paint on the fireplace’s exterior igniting. No injuries have been reported. Description: The recalled fireplace consists of a round fire bowl that rests on four legs, with a chimney cap and hood. The fireplace is made of steel and is painted black. They are about 3-feet tall and 2-feet wide. The item number, 91023, is printed on the package materials. Sold at: Lowe’s stores exclusively nationwide from August 2005 through July 2006 for about $100. Manufactured in: China Remedy: Consumers should stop using the fireplaces immediately and return them to any Lowe’s store to receive a full refund.
