J.C. PENNEY RECALLS SHAG RUGS DUE TO FIRE HAZARD
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. Name of Product: “Alyssa” Shag Rugs Units: About 2,900 Importer: J.C. Penney, of Plano, Texas Hazard: The rugs fail to meet federal standards for flammability and could ignite, posing a risk of fire and burn injuries to consumers. Incidents/Injuries: None. Description: This recall involves “Alyssa” shag rugs that were available in the following dimensions: 2’ x 3’ oval, 4’ x 6’ oval, 5’ x 8’ oval, 8’ x 11’ oval, 8’ round, and a 2’ x 6’ rectangular runner. The rugs have a one-inch pile height and were available in four color patterns: red/natural/brown, chocolate/olive/natural, gold/rust/natural, and blue/rust/green/natural. Sold through: The J.C. Penney catalog and Web site from June 2007 through August 2007 for between $30 and $300. Manufactured in: India Remedy: Consumers should stop using the recalled rugs immediately and return the rugs to any J.C. Penney store for a full refund. CHRISTMAS TREE SHOPS RECALLS GLITTER CANDLES DUE TO FIRE HAZARD
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. Name of Product: Sequin Glitter Candles Units: About 9,600 Distributor: Christmas Tree Shops Inc., of South Yarmouth, Mass. Hazard: The candle’s exterior glitter coating can ignite, posing a fire hazard. Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received four reports of flames or smoke coming from the candle or the exterior coating. No injuries have been reported. Description: This recall involves glitter candles in three styles.

The candles were available in gold, silver and red. The UPC label can be located on the product’s packaging. Sold at: Christmas Tree Shop retail locations nationwide from November 2006 through December 2006 for between $1.70 and $3.00. P3 INTERNATIONAL RECALLS IONIZAIR™ AIR PURIFIERS DUE TO RISK OF FIRE
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. Name of Product: IonizAir™ Table Top Air Purifiers Units: About 83,000 Importer: P3 International, of New York, N.Y. Manufacturer: Leaven Enterprise Co., of Taiwan Hazard: The air purifier’s cartridge can overheat, posing a risk of fire. Incidents/Injuries: P3 has received 10 reports of purifiers melting or catching fire. No injuries have been reported. Description: The recalled air purifier is a tabletop model that is about 6” x 3 1/2” x 11 1/4”. The unit has a removable cartridge with a silver-colored handle. The recall involves model number P4620 with lot numbers beginning with either 03 or 04 or having no lot number. The lot number is located on the bottom of the air purifier. No other models or lot numbers are included in this recall. Sold at: Various retailers nationwide including mail-order and Internet retailers from January 2003 through July 2004 for between $60 and $90. Manufactured in: Taiwan Remedy: Consumers should stop using and unplug the recalled air purifier immediately, and contact the firm for a free replacement cartridge.
