(1) PC NOTEBOOK COMPUTER BATTERIES RECALLED DUE TO FIRE AND BURN HAZARD

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firms named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Lithium-Ion Batteries used in Hewlett-Packard, Toshiba and Dell Notebook Computers

Units: About 35,000 batteries (an additional 65,000 batteries were sold worldwide)

Battery Cell Manufacturer: Sony Energy Devices Corporation, of Japan

Hazard: These lithium-ion batteries can overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: There have been 19 reports of the batteries overheating, including 17 reports of flames/fire (10 resulting in minor property damage). Two consumers experienced minor burns.

Description: The recalled batteries were included with, and sold separately for use in, the following notebook computer models:

The battery model is located on the battery’s label.

Sold by: Computers with the recalled batteries were sold directly by Hewlett-Packard, Toshiba and Dell, through computer and electronics stores nationwide, and through various Web retailers for between $700 and $3000. The batteries were also sold separately for between $100 and $160.

Battery Cells Manufactured in: Japan

Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the recalled battery from their notebook computer, and contact their computer manufacturer to determine if their battery is included in the recall and to request a free replacement battery. After removing the recalled battery from their notebook computer, consumers may use the AC adapter to power the computer until a replacement battery arrives. Consumers should only use batteries obtained from their computer manufacturer or an authorized reseller.

(2) GHOST TEALIGHT HOLDERS RECALLED BY TRADE ASSOCIATES GROUP AND CRATE & BARREL DUE TO FIRE AND BURN HAZARD

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Ghost Tealight Holders

Units: About 30,000

Importer: Trade Associates Group Ltd., of Chicago, Ill.

Retailers: Crate & Barrel, of Northbrook, Ill., and other retailers

Hazard: The recalled tealight holder can ignite posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: There have been five reports of the tealight holders igniting and one report of the holder becoming excessively hot. Two consumers suffered burns to the hand. Minor property damage to furniture has also been reported.

Description: The recalled product is a metal tealight candle holder in the shape of ghost. The product is white with a black base. They were sold by Crate & Barrel as a set of 3 (SKU #370-846 and/or Catalog Item #X2006) and by other retailers as individual units (SKU #770123). The SKU can be located on the product’s packaging.

Sold through: Crate & Barrel’s October catalog and stores nationwide from August 2008 to October 2008 for about $10 for a set of 3, and other houseware retail stores nationwide from August 2008 to October 2008 for between $3 and $5 for individually packaged units.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the Ghost Tealight Holders immediately and return them to the store where purchased for a full refund.

(3) FIESTA RECALLS TO INSPECT AND REPAIR GAS GRILLS DUE TO FIRE AND BURN HAZARDS

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Blue Ember Gas Grills

Units: About 47,000

Importer: Fiesta Gas Grills, of Dickson, Tenn.

Manufacturers: Keesung Manufacturing Co. Ltd. and Unisplendor Corp., of China

Hazard: The gas grills can be assembled improperly exposing the gas burner hoses to excessive heat, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Fiesta has received 14 reports of grill fires. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recall involves Blue Ember liquid propane (LP) or natural gas outdoor grills. The recalled model and serial numbers are listed below. The model and serial numbers are printed on a rating plate label on the rear of the grill. The cabinet style grill has two doors and is silver-colored and black or silver-colored and gray. "Blue Ember" is printed on the grill’s hood.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the grills, and inspect the burner hoses to make sure they have been properly assembled. If the hose is to the rear of the installed heat shield, the grill has been improperly assembled and consumers should contact Fiesta for replacement hoses, assembly instructions, and if necessary, for assistance in examining the grill.

(4) PORTABLE GENERATORS RECALLED BY GENERAL POWER PRODUCTS DUE TO FIRE HAZARD

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Portable Generators

Units: About 13,000

Importer: General Power Products LLC, of Loveland, Ohio

Hazard: The generator’s fuel valve can be damaged by the cover plate during shipment and cause a fuel leak and fuel spillage during use, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: General Power Products has received 14 reports of damaged fuel valves. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall includes the General Power Products 6000 Watt portable generator and the Poulan Pro 6000 Watt portable generator with serial numbers 060400483 through 060600725. The serial number is stamped on the engine block which is located on the front of the engine below the generator’s control panel. "General Power Products" and "6000 Generator" are printed on the side of the General Power Products generator. "Poulan Pro" and "6000 watts" are printed on the side of the Poulan Pro generator.

Sold at: Hardware and home improvement stores primarily located in Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Ohio and Texas from June 2008 through September 2008 for between $600 and $800.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the generators and contact General Power Products to determine if the generator’s fuel valve is damaged and, if it is, to receive a free repair kit and instructions.

(5) WIRELESS HEADSET BATTERIES RECALLED BY GN NETCOM DUE TO FIRE HAZARD

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: GN9120 Wireless Headsets

Units: About 525,000 (an additional 675,000 were sold outside the U.S.)

Manufacturer: GN Netcom Inc., of Nashua, New Hampshire

Manufacturer (battery): Amperex Technology Limited (ATL), of Hong Kong

Hazard: An internal short circuit can cause the lithium-ion polymer batteries to overheat, posing a fire hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: GN Netcom has received 10 reports of incidents involving overheating, including three reports of open flames and property damage to furniture on which the headsets were resting. An additional 37 reports of overheating, three reports of open flames and one report of second degree burns, requiring medical attention, was received outside the U.S.

Description: This recall involves GN9120 wireless headsets with ATL lithium-ion polymer batteries. The headsets are intended primarily for professional use in offices and call centers. The product is sold with three components: a base station, headset and power adapter. "GN Netcom" or "GN9120" is printed on the base station and headset. The affected batteries have part number 603028 and have a white plastic enclosure. The batteries are labeled "Made by ATL (Amperex Technology Ltd.)" and "(ATL P/N 603028)." Batteries sold as a replacement part are labeled "GN9120 battery replacement kit."

Sold through: GN Netcom, authorized distributors and resellers nationwide from January 2005 through September 2008 for between $150 and $350 as part of the GN9120 headset and about $20 as a replacement part.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using and unplug the recalled headsets. Consumers should contact GN Netcom to receive a replacement battery.

(6) COBY ELECTRONICS RECALLS RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES SOLD WITH PORTABLE DVD/CD/MP3 PLAYERS DUE TO FIRE HAZARD

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Rechargeable Batteries sold with portable DVD/CD/MP3 players

Units: About 13,000

Importer: Coby Electronics Corp., of Lake Success, N.Y.

Hazard: The rechargeable batteries can overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Coby Electronics has received four reports of batteries overheating, three of which resulted in minor property damage from a fire. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves batteries with serial numbers listed below sold with the TF-DVD 1020 portable DVD/CD/MP3 players. The battery's serial number can be found on a white sticker affixed to it. The product looks like a small laptop computer and has a 10” swivel TV screen. "COBY" is written on the front cover and under the screen. "TF-DVD 1020" can be found on the bottom of the unit.

Sold at: Discount, electronics, music, toy, office supply stores and distributors of electronic products nationwide. The TF-DVD 1020 units containing the recalled batteries were sold from May 2007 through July 2008 for about $168.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the “TF-DVD 1020” players with the recalled batteries and contact the firm to arrange for a free replacement battery. After removing the recalled batteries from the unit, consumers can continue to use it with the AC or DC power adapter.
