A Masonary Chimney With Clay Flue Lining For a Lifetime Of Safety and
Service. Clay Flue Lining Institute.
Abstract: A chimney's main function is to allow products of combustion
to escape and to provide draft. The clay flue lining prevents the products
of combustion from penetrating the brick chimney. Clay flue lining is unaffected
by chemicals, which makes it the best choice for chimney lining. It also
provides a more uniform draft. This article lists the specifications for
a masonry chimney with a clay flue lining. A diagram is included.
The article also discusses the chimney cap, clean out chamber, and chimney
foundation. A masonry chimney should have a cap for protection. A clean
out chamber is also needed to provide easy access for cleaning the chimney,
which should occur often. The chimney foundation should be constructed of
3000 PSI concrete and designed to support the specific load of the chimney.
