Sleeving

the melting of the inner layer of electrical wire insulation due to overheating of the conductor, causing the insulation to slide about the wire core, or sag and deform. If the insulation melts off, the hot wire may ignite adjacent combustibles. Overloads produce heat along the entire length of the overloaded circuit and may cause sleeving.
