Stricter Safety Tests Set For Home Halogen Lamps. Associated Press. Nation Magazine. January 9, 1997.

Abstract: This newspaper article discusses the dangers of halogen lamps and reports some instances in which halogen lamps caused fires. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has reported that halogen lamps are responsible for over 100 fires and 10 deaths since 1992.

College campuses across the nation are banning halogen lamps in dormitories because of the threat they pose. Brown started a program to allow students to turn in their halogen lamps for $10.

Americans own approximately 40 million halogen lamps and safety groups are issuing warnings not to leave them on unattended and to keep them away from combustible materials.
