Red Flags For Detecting Insurance Fraud. Canadian Coalition Against
Insurance Fraud.
Abstract: Insurance fraud is any act to illegally obtain an insurance
benefit. This act could consist of an entirely false claim or embellishing
a genuine claim. This manual is intended to assist claim handlers with initially
identifying suspicious claims. The manual provides a list of indicators
or "red flags" for different types of insurance fraud. The topics
range from arson, to bodily injury, to vehicle theft indicators. The presence
of a red flag does not prove that the claim is false. The red flag simply
means there are questions to be answered. Included with the list of indicators
are questions to ask the insured when the indicator is present.
