Events: "The Bombing of Mary Lou"

Synopsis:

On February 14, 1991 at approximately 7:10 AM, a destructive device (i.e. pipe bomb) detonated injuring Mary Lou. The bomb detonated after Mary Lou picked up the packaged device from the front porch of her residence. Mary Lou sustained minor injuries as a result of the explosion.

On the same date, Mary Lou is the affiant to an arrest warrant, charging Billy Bob with Aggravated Assault.

On February 8, 1991, local police officers arrest Billy Bob on the charge. Billy Bob is subsequently released when he posts a property bond.

On February 9, 1991, Mary Lou appears before the General District Court Judge. A court order is subsequently issued restraining Billy Bob from going to Mary Lou's residence and place of employment.

On the same day, February 9, a Deputy Sheriff serves the restraining order on Billy Bob.

On February 10, 1991, Billy Bob talks with a friend, Ernest T., about killing Mary Lou.

On February 11, 1991, Billy Bob obtains pipe bomb components from Radio Shack (i.e. wire, electrical tape, C-cell batteries, A C-cell battery holder, and a mercury switch) and Ace Hardware (i.e. galvanized pipe and two (2) end caps).

On the same date, Billy Bob constructs a pipe bomb at Ernest T's residence, using the purchased components, and smokeless powder and an electric blasting cap provided by Ernest T.

On February 13, 1991, at approximately 9:30 PM, Ernest T. drives Billy Bob, who has the pipe bomb in a package addressed to Mary Lou, to a location near Mary Lou's residence. Billy Bob exits the vehicle and walks in the direction of the residence.

At approximately 9:32 PM, Billy Bob watches the residence for activity. While, Ernest T. waits approximately two (2) blocks away from the residence.

At approximately 9:35 PM, a witness, Barbara Jean, notices Ernest T. in his vehicle parked on the street near her residence.

Billy Bob cautiously approaches the front porch of Mary Lou's residence and connects two (2) wires that are protruding underneath the package to arm the destructive device. He then places the package on the porch and walks away from the residence.

At approximately 9:37 PM, Barbara Jean takes her dog Ol' Blue, for a walk. Barbara Jean notices Ernest T. sitting in the vehicle. Barbara Jean also notices that the vehicle has personalized license plates, " I rock".

On February 14, 1991, at approximately 7:08 AM, Mary Lou exits the front door of her residence and walks to the newspaper box located next to the street.

At approximately 7;10 AM, Mary Lou notices a package sitting on he front porch next to the door. She sees her name on the package and red hearts that are drawn onto the butcher paper that covers the package. Mary Lou picks up the package and it explodes. The explosion launches her into the air and she lands in a bush next to the porch.

At approximately 7:14 AM, rescue squad and police personnel arrive at the scene. Mary Lou is taken to the local hospital. She is found to have sustained minor bruises, abrasions, and a temporary hearing loss.

The local police department and ATF conduct the bombing investigation, which leads to the arrest of Billy Bob and Ernest T.
